ABOUT
The World Poker Tour was founded in 2002 by Steve Lipscomb and launched the era of televised poker that would transform the game into a mainstream phenomenon. Beginning with Season 1 in 2003, the WPT partnered with the Travel Channel to bring high-production-value poker broadcasts into living rooms across America, featuring hole-card cameras that let audiences follow the drama of every hand.
The WPT's global circuit spans events in the United States, Europe, Asia, Latin America, and beyond — attracting thousands of players to events that typically feature $3,500 to $10,000 buy-ins with prize pools in the millions. The WPT Champions Club is an elite group of repeat winners that includes names like Gus Hansen (three victories in a single season), Jonathan Little, and Darvin Moon.
The Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup — named for the beloved broadcaster and ambassador who represented the WPT for over 15 years — is awarded at each Main Event victory. The trophy and the title remain among the most meaningful achievements in tournament poker.
